The simplest multipurpose cleaning agent available, soapberries, or 'soap nuts', are dried berries from the Sapindus tree family (in this case of the 'mukorossi' variety) which are naturally packed with saponins. Being a direct product of nature, they are 100% biodegradable, making them a sustainable and plastic-free option for cleaning. Because of their effectiveness, they remain a standard cleaning agent in many parts of the world where they grow natively.

Most commonly used as a laundry detergent, naturally occurring soapberries can be used anywhere you would use soap – to wash dishes, clean pets, or on your skin or hair. Its gentle scent-free and hypoallergenic nature makes it especially perfect for baby's first baths.

Depending on the extent of use, each batch can be reused up to five times, or until their mild fruity smell (which should be light and lovely, reminiscent of the sour part of watermelon) is gone, at which point the expended fruits can be composted. We source our berries directly from Nepal, ensuring freshness and potency for an effective clean.

For laundry, simply toss a sachet full (about 4-6 berries is good) into the washing machine along with your load of clothing, dish towels, etc. If you're cleaning something especially odorous that still requires a cool wash, you can make a 2-minute soapberry 'tea' in order to help release the saponins, then toss that into your load. For all other applications, soak longer and use the soapy tea itself to clean. For longest shelf life, store soapberries in an enclosed or airtight container within a dry area.
